Warbird Flight

The Harvard Warbird was used to train pilots in WWII and has a beautiful sound with an impressive speed of 156 knots. Flying a Warbird is a privileged experience that can only be bettered by flying in a Spitfire. Indeed, it was the training plane for Spitfire pilots.

On arrival at the airfield take time to admire the stunning views over the Dorset countryside before meeting the ground crew and your pilot in the Vintage Flight Room for a safety briefing and to discuss where you want to fly. Then it’s time to get kitted out in your military flying suit and climb into the cockpit of this amazing aircraft, ready for “chocks away.” On your 20-minute flight over an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you will have the chance to take the controls and experience the thrill of flying this legendary aircraft yourself.

On landing you will receive a certificate and then enjoy celebratory tea and cake for two in the restaurant.

• On the day
  • Transfers from the inn to airfield are not included and please arrive at least 30 minutes before your flight time
• Gear
  • Warm clothes at colder times of year are advisable, flip flops or sandals are not appropriate
• Suitability
  • There is a maximum weight limit of 18 stone and a minimum age of 14 years. If you have any medical concerns or existing medical conditions you should consult your GP before booking the experience.
• Flight confirmation
  • It is advisable to ring to confirm the flight before you set out for the airfield. Should the flight be cancelled on the day, Compton Abbas will issue a new flight voucher which will remain valid for a year. However, this does not apply to the dinner, bed and breakfast part of your package and it will be up to you to book another flight time with the airfield directly (and another night stay with us should you choose).
